Dressmaker
A dress in Dressmaker starts with the customer's measurements. Then you put the design together from bodices, sleeves, collars and skirts, buy fabric, lay out the pattern pieces, cut and sew on the machine, and a crooked seam costs you quality.

The game was conceived by Jonathan Hau-Yoon and his partner Sabrina Becker, an experienced dressmaker. She compared laying out pattern pieces to a puzzle, where you have to save fabric and mind the grain and the bias. That decides how the dress will look.
A TikTok clip of the prototype got about half a million views before the game even had a name. Hau-Yoon took the project to Free Lives, the studio that had released GORN, and a playable version was built there in about three weeks. Some of the sounds were recorded on Becker's own vintage Singer machine. According to the developers, the game recovered its development costs within its first day.
Reviewers praised the sewing and the freedom of design. One found the shop management less deep than the sewing, another worried that commissions would start to repeat. Critics give it 86 on Metacritic, players leave 98% positive out of 19,029 reviews. By our Recommended Score it is #655 of 4,736 games.
