It was made by Swedish developer Robert Topala, whose earlier games had only modest success. Geometry Dash came out on phones in August 2013 and reached Steam in December 2014.
The official levels are just a warm-up. Players have built more than 150 million of their own in the editor, and some have even recreated other games inside it. For the hardest levels, the demons, the community started its own list, where moderators check every completion.
Players waited almost seven years for update 2.2 after 2.1. Topala planned it for Christmas 2020, then for the end of 2022, and released it in December 2023. Afterwards concurrent players on Steam jumped past 88,000.
Critics praised the music and visuals but criticized the difficulty. Only one reviewer felt the game, frustrating as it is, was worth the nerves. Players rate it 93% positive across 612,757 reviews. On our Recommended Score it ranks 709 of 4,736 games.
