Patching up the marriage falls to a talking couples-therapy book, Dr. Hakim. Fares himself performed him in motion capture.

Fares also had to explain the elephant scene. To make their daughter cry again, the parents tear a leg and an ear off her favourite toy. The heroes are so wrapped up in themselves, Fares explained in 2025, that they forgot what matters most.

In 2021 It Takes Two won Game of the Year at The Game Awards. Reviewers praised the co-op, though some took issue with the uneven writing and with Hakim himself. Critics give it 89 on Metacritic, players leave 95% positive out of 220,875 reviews. By our Recommended Score it is #62 of 4,736 games.
