The Isle
In The Isle you play a dinosaur, and the other dinosaurs on the server, which can hold more than a hundred people, are real players too. You can be predator or prey, and in survival mode your animal goes through the stages of growing up.

Growing up takes care. In November 2024 the diet system was reworked so that individual nutrients have their own effects, and the bigger your dinosaur gets, the more often it has to eat.
The fun really starts when players band together into packs and herds, build nests and grow their groups. From there it escalates into large dinosaur battles.
The game entered Steam early access in December 2015. Updates went into a branch called Evrima, and the Triceratops, for example, only became playable on all its servers in June 2025.
If you want a finished game, keep in mind that in June 2025, almost ten years after it started, The Isle was still in early access. Players give it 80% positive across 114,115 reviews. In our Recommended Score it ranks 2,627 of 4,736 games.
Enjoyed it? Try Primal Carnage, where player-controlled dinosaurs hunt armed humans, and ARK: Survival Ascended, where you tame most dinosaurs by knocking them out and feeding them.
