Game Science was founded in 2014 by seven former Tencent employees. It put out the game's first trailer in August 2020 to find people for the team, which had about 30 members at the time. The trailer went viral, the studio got more than 10,000 résumés, and the finished game's credits list 140 names.
On launch day in August 2024, more than 2.2 million people were playing it at once on Steam, more than any single-player game before it. In the first four days, the studio says, it sold 10 million copies.
The game's six chapters are mostly linear. Some reviewers complained about invisible walls blocking paths that look perfectly walkable. Players leave 96% positive out of 883,539 reviews, critics give it 81 on Metacritic. By our Recommended Score it is #210 of 4,736 games.
