Miyazaki wanted the story to be more accessible too. What happened in the world before the game begins was written by George R. R. Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, while Miyazaki wrote the main story himself. He likened the split to a dungeon master's handbook in a tabletop RPG.
Guinness counted 599 Game of the Year awards given for 2022, and ELDEN RING took 435 of them. At The Game Awards it won Game of the Year as well.
Even with Martin on board, one reviewer found the storytelling sparse and cryptic, as usual for FromSoftware, and at launch the PC version drew complaints about frame rate drops. If you want a story told plainly, keep that in mind. Players leave 93% positive out of 835,408 reviews, critics give it 94 on Metacritic. By our Recommended Score it is #4 of 4,736 games.
