In 2023 Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game in the US by dollar sales. For the first time since 2008, the year's top spot went to neither Call of Duty nor Rockstar. By December 2025 it had sold more than 40 million copies.
Many reviewers praised the castle and the combat but criticized the technical problems at launch. The open world left some reviewers unimpressed, and one missed Quidditch. Players leave 89% positive out of 278,197 reviews, critics give it 83 on Metacritic. By our Recommended Score it is #296 of 4,736 games.
