Raft
Raft starts you on a few planks in the middle of the ocean. You fish passing debris out of the water with a hook and build the raft out with it, while a shark circles and keeps going for that raft. You can survive alone or with friends.

It all began as a school project. In the autumn of 2016 three students at Sweden's Uppsala University spent about 15 weeks, half-time, on a prototype of ocean survival. In December it went up for free on itch.io, and it was downloaded more than 7 million times.
That prototype was the start of the studio Redbeet Interactive, with Axolot Games as publisher. Raft entered Steam early access in May 2018, and version 1.0, called The Final Chapter, only arrived in June 2022, more than five years into development, and finished the story.
One reviewer liked the progression and the freedom in building the raft, but found the sharks more of a nuisance than a threat and the hunger and thirst meters pretty aggressive early on. By 2024 it had sold at least 5 million copies. Players leave 93% positive out of 325,353 reviews. By our Recommended Score it is #901 of 4,736 games.
