Titanfall 2
A pilot in Titanfall 2 runs along walls and, mid-fight, climbs into a titan, a huge combat robot. Unlike the first game, this one has a story campaign, in which a rank-and-file militia rifleman loses his mentor and inherits the mentor's titan, BT-7274, as his partner.

The campaign was added to keep players around. The first Titanfall sold well at launch, but players did not stick around, and game director Steve Fukuda linked that to the lack of a campaign. Levels were assembled from prototypes made at internal game jams, so in one mission you jump through time and in the next you assault titans.
Fukuda built the story as a buddy tale inspired by films like Lethal Weapon. BT stands for Buddy Titan. The team hated the name, but Fukuda insisted.
Titanfall 2 came out in October 2016, between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and EA admitted sales fell short of expectations.
Critics praised the gameplay. The plot split reviewers, and one was let down by a campaign of about five hours. Players leave 95% positive out of 257,684 reviews, critics give it 86 on Metacritic. By our Recommended Score it is #71 of 4,736 games.
Liked it? Try Half-Life 2, from the series Respawn looked to when it built its story around a mystery, and Call of Duty: Black Ops III, whose campaign set in 2065 can be played by four.
