Counter-Strike 2
Terrorists plant a bomb, counter-terrorists try to stop them, and after every short round players earn money for weapons and gear. That is Counter-Strike 2. Its predecessor, Global Offensive, grew out of an attempt to bring the previous game in the series to consoles.

Hidden Path Entertainment started that port in 2010, and Valve saw a chance to turn it into a full new game. Global Offensive came out in August 2012 on computers, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at once.
A year later the Arms Deal update added weapon skins. In December 2018 Global Offensive went fully free to play and got a battle royale mode, Danger Zone, along the way.
In September 2023 Counter-Strike 2, on the Source 2 engine, took its place on Steam, and inventories moved over with all their skins. Smoke from grenades now reacts to light, gunfire and explosions.
If you remember Global Offensive, keep in mind that the new version launched without some of the old modes, Danger Zone among them. Players leave 85% positive out of 9,969,175 reviews, critics give it 82 on Metacritic. By our Recommended Score it is #834 of 4,736 games.
Liked it? Try Counter-Strike, the 1999 Half-Life mod where the series began, and Counter-Strike: Source, the very game someone once tried to port to consoles.
