eFootball
In eFootball you play as real clubs or hire players and a coach for a team of your own. This is how Konami relaunched Pro Evolution Soccer in 2021. The old name was dropped, the game went free to play, and the series moved to Unreal Engine 4 for the first time.

The September 2021 launch was a disaster. A day after release about 92% of its Steam reviews were negative, the worst of any game on the store, and on Metacritic it became the lowest-rated game of the year.
Konami apologized, but the big 1.0 update only arrived in April 2022. Even after it, one reviewer found eFootball hard to recommend, free or not. He criticized how it favors those who pay, but praised the player and stadium models.
From 2021 to 2026, new seasons, from eFootball 2022 to eFootball 2027, came as free updates rather than separate games. In June 2022 eFootball reached phones, and in April 2026 Konami announced a billion downloads.
Players on Steam leave 52% positive out of 120,568 reviews. By our Recommended Score it is #2,085 of 4,736 games.
