The sky in the game is built from real photographs. Playground Games sent a three-camera rig to Mexico that photographed the whole sky every 30 seconds. That added up to more than 400 hours of footage and 75 terabytes. It was far too much to upload, so the hard drives were shipped to the studio in the UK.
The dry season brings dust storms, and autumn brings tropical storms. The murals were made with Mexican artists.
More than 10 million people played it in the first week, a first-week record for Xbox. At The Game Awards 2021 it won three awards, including audio and accessibility. And on 29 April 2025 it came out on PlayStation 5, the first mainline Forza on a platform not made by Microsoft.
One reviewer found the handling made it too easy, another got tired of events and activities pinging from every direction. Players leave 89% positive out of 262,621 reviews, critics give it 91 on Metacritic. By our Recommended Score it is #44 of 4,736 games.
