The game started out as a single-player cleaning game. Swedish studio semiwork then added multiplayer, but nothing kept the players together, so cleaning gave way to moving house. And moving house grew into runs into haunted houses.
Before this the studio spent six years on Voidigo, which did worse than the team had hoped. Everything it earned went into R.E.P.O. "Let's just fail quickly," as semiwork co-CEO Walter Tischkewitz recalls the mood.
Failing did not work out. The game entered Steam Early Access on February 26, 2025, and in one week of mid-March it was the highest-grossing paid game on Steam.
Its setup is close to Lethal Company, and a PC Gamer writer admitted he never noticed Lethal Company was missing physics until he played R.E.P.O. Voice chat and coordination are what matter here, so bring friends. Players leave 96% positive out of 348,638 reviews. By our Recommended Score it is #631 of 4,736 games.
