In the summer of 2013 The Fun Pimps raised money on Kickstarter, and in December the game went into Steam early access, where it stayed for more than ten years. Version 1.0, released in July 2024, was the twenty-second alpha.
The PS4 and Xbox One versions came out in 2016 through Telltale, and after Telltale collapsed in 2018 the developers ended the license. Those consoles got their last patch in December 2017, and new console versions only arrived with 1.0.
Critics gave the 2016 console versions poor reviews, and one reviewer disliked how long the game sat in alpha. Players leave 87% positive out of 275,111 reviews, critics give it 47 on Metacritic. By our Recommended Score it is #4,326 of 4,736 games.
Liked it? Try Project Zomboid, where the infection has no cure and the goal is to last as long as you can, and The Long Dark, about surviving the frozen Canadian wilderness. Kickstarter helped fund that game too, in 2013.
