Marvel Rivals
Marvel Rivals pits two teams of six Marvel heroes against each other in a third-person shooter, on maps you can tear apart. There are three roles. Vanguards soak up damage, Duelists deal it, and Strategists heal and buff their team. Paired up, one hero can also borrow an ability from another. The game launched free in December 2024 and drew 10 million players in its first 72 hours.

It was made by a NetEase team in Guangzhou, while Marvel kept watch over the tone and its characters. At launch there was no role queue. Creative director Guangyun Chen explained that this allows more varied lineups and lets team-up abilities work without restrictions.
The spectacle has a downside. One columnist found the fights hard to read, with team-up effects turning the brawl to sludge. In July 2026 NetEase toned down the effects of several heroes and many team-ups so fights would be easier to follow.
At launch, the business model drew praise, since every hero was free and a battle pass you bought never expired. Players give it 75% positive across 425,190 reviews, and critics 74 on Metacritic. In our Recommended Score it ranks 2,167 of 4,736 games.
Enjoyed it? Try Team Fortress 2, where Valve split fighters into nine classes back in 2007, and Paladins, where each champion takes a deck of cards into the match.
