Aniimo
In Aniimo you don't just catch the creatures, you turn into them. In this open-world RPG you catch them by throwing an aniipod, and your odds improve if you weaken them in battle or find them asleep. The Twine mechanic merges your hero with a creature you've caught, so you can explore the world through its eyes, flying, swimming, burrowing or blending into a herd.

In battle, Twine lets you control the creature directly, and fights play out in real time rather than in turns.
Aniimo was revealed in June 2025 at the Xbox Games Showcase, with Pawprint Studio as the developer. Before launch it gathered more than 28 million pre-registrations. In September 2026 it came out free on PC and consoles.
One reviewer liked the battles and never once felt the game was squeezing him for money, though he found the menus clunky. Another felt the story was spoiled by constant busywork detours, and at launch the PC version crashed about every twenty minutes, so he switched to PS5. Players give it 72% positive across 29,087 reviews, and critics 78 on Metacritic. On our Recommended Score it ranks 3,270 of 4,736 games.
Liked it? Try Palworld, where the creatures you catch work at your base and pick up guns, and Temtem, an online creature-catching RPG inspired by Pokémon.
