Its 2021 trailer became one of the most disliked videos on PlayStation's YouTube channel. Fans, the press wrote, were frustrated to see Rockstar working on GTA V again instead of a new GTA.
On PC, the ray traced shadows and reflections that came from the consoles were joined by ray traced ambient occlusion and global illumination, which the consoles do not have.
In GTA Online this version brought Hao's Special Works, a shop for tuning select cars, and starter money that lets a new character open one of four businesses. And in March 2025 players of Legacy and Enhanced were split online.
Critics were lukewarm about the 2022 console version and doubted the point of a new version of an ageing game. They praised the visuals and loading but found the gameplay and story dated. Players leave 83% positive out of 222,678 reviews. By our Recommended Score it is #22 of 4,736 games.
